ReadiTech Engineering partnered with Apex to complete an Environmental Report for Categorical Exclusions for the USDA Rural Utilities Service (RUS) to install 325 miles of new underground fiber optic cable in North Dakota and Montana. The project received funding through RUS’ ReConnect III program. Several challenges arose during the permitting process, including changing personnel with RUS and coordinating with agencies in both states. Section 106 consultation was completed with both ND and MT SHPOs and 11 THPOs. Informal Section 7 Consultation occurred with the USFWS field offices in ND and MT. Apex successfully completed the environmental review process, and the project was able to proceed to construction.
