City of Dickinson Sims Street
Stormwater Improvements

Project Details

Apex completed a hydrologic and hydraulic analysis to produce a design to reduce the localized street flooding as part of the Sims Street Stormwater Improvements – Phase 2 for the City of Dickinson. A technical memorandum was prepared documenting the existing conditions versus the proposed conditions.

Rain events along Sims Street in Dickinson have caused localized flooding for years, especially at the Museum Drive intersection, which is the intersection of a minor arterial and collector street. The outfall of the corridor is a small open channel, and the street lacked sufficient stormwater infrastructure to properly manage storm event runoff.

Apex developed an XPSWMM model of the contributing watershed. The model was developed using LiDAR, aerial photography, as-built drawings, and ground survey collected by Apex. The model was verified against localized rain events. Construction plans and specifications were developed for the proposed improvements. The stormwater improvements were included in a larger street reconstruction project that included a new sanitary sewer and watermain as well.
