City of Bismarck
South Washington Street
Burleigh Ave to South Bismarck Drainage Ditch
Project Details
The South Washington Street project included the reconstruction of South Washington Street from Burleigh Avenue to the South Bismarck Drainage Ditch. The roadway was reconstructed to a three-lane urban road section, including lighting, landscaping, a 10-foot-wide multi-use pedestrian trail, a 5-foot-wide pedestrian sidewalk, the extension of a 16-inch watermain, and the installation of a storm sewer system. A traffic signal was installed at the London Avenue/Santa Fe Avenue intersection and a roundabout at the Burleigh Avenue intersection. Burleigh Avenue was widened between South Washington Street and Boston Drive to a three-lane section with a center left turn lane. The existing Burleigh Avenue roadway was milled and overlaid in addition to widening.
Project activities included preliminary engineering, environmental documentation, public involvement, design, stormwater analysis, construction administration, and construction inspection. The storm water analysis included evaluating multiple existing storm water ponds and lift stations to more efficiently convey the flows into a new system and outfall location.
