Bismarck Event Center
Arena Lighting Expansion

Project Details

OVERVIEW
Apex completed the electrical design for the Arena Lighting Upgrade at the Bismarck Event Center. The lighting control system also included the lighting controls within the office and concessions area on the south end of the facility.

PROJECT DETAILS
The existing lighting control system was manufactured by Douglas Lighting Controls and installed in 2007. The system utilized relay panels and dimming panels located on the catwalk system.

The existing arena lighting consisted of a combination of large wattage incandescent and large wattage metal halide. The arena floor area lighting was metal halide high bays with metal halide sports lighting fixtures for added illumination during sporting events.
The existing relay and dimming panels were replaced with new panelboards and relay panels at various locations throughout the facility. The new relay panels also controlled numerous receptacles on the catwalk system which are used during many of different events.

The new lighting consists of LED high bays over the arena floor and seating areas. This general lighting is controlled by the dimming panels and offers 0-10VDC dimming from the lighting control system. The sports lighting system was designed around MUSCO lighting and offers instant on/off, dimming and color changing with the new LED sources.

CHALLENGES
The owner needed to maintain operation of the existing facility during the construction, the office and meeting rooms were used throughout the project. The arena area of the project was simplified with COVID and allowed the contractor to have larger periods of time with the event center not being used.
