Main Avenue Reconstruction Fargo
Project Details
Apex Engineering Group was a subconsultant to SRF for the Preliminary and Final Design. The SRF/Apex Team was selected by the North Dakota Department of Transportation to prepare project scoping, environmental documentation, preliminary and final design, and engineer of record services for the reconstruction of Main Avenue (US Hwy 10) from University Drive to 2nd Street in the City of Fargo. The purpose of this project is to mitigate identified system deficiencies (utilities, traffic operations), safety issues (access and crash), and capacity constraints (deficient roadway geometry and right-of-way) and also provide opportunities for an enhanced business environment, improve safety and convenience for pedestrians, and create a safe and efficient transportation corridor that supports regional and local traffic needs.
The project consists of full replacement of the street section and underground utilities from right-of-way line to right-of-way line. During preliminary design, SRF looked at five different lane configuration alternatives and six options to add on to the alternatives.
Apex Engineering Group led the design of watermain and sanitary sewer infrastructure and handled all private utility coordination efforts for the project.
Apex was the lead consultant for the construction administration phase of the project which included inspection and construction surveying. The urban nature of the project corridor within high traffic volumes required detailed construction phasing and work zone traffic control plans. Daily coordination with the contractor and businesses were essential to the project’s success. Apex worked closely with NDDOT’s Fargo District personnel that were assigned project management duties on behalf of NDDOT.
