Funding for Henning Water Treatment Facility Improvements
Project Details
The Henning Water Treatment Facility Improvements project began in 2023 to rehabilitate and expand the City’s aging facility while securing critical funding for long-term sustainability. The City of Henning selected Apex Engineering Group to prepare a Preliminary Engineering Report documenting the need to upgrade the City’s Water Treatment Facility. The original Treatment Facility was constructed in 2002, making it over 20 years old, and various components were reaching the end of their useful life. Apex worked with City staff to prepare a report documenting alternatives for addressing the aging facility, with the preferred option being the rehabilitation and expansion of the existing facility.
Apex played a vital role in securing and managing funding for the project. The team provided comprehensive funding application services, expertly preparing and submitting all necessary documentation to the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA). Their efforts resulted in securing $5 million in grant dollars—nearly 70% of the overall project cost—for the City. In addition to obtaining funding, Apex continues to offer robust funding administration, labor standards oversight, and detailed reporting services required by the PFA throughout the construction phase, ensuring compliance and maximizing the project’s financial resources.
Construction on the Water Treatment Facility began in 2025 and is expected to be completed by 2026.
