Fargo’s 2.5 MG Water Tower
Named Tank of the Year!
The City of Fargo’s newest and largest tower in North Dakota now holds the title of Tnemec’s Tank of the Year for 2025. Congrats to the City of Fargo, all the engineers, artists, construction crews and beyond that made this tower possible. Featuring the City’s first art installation, this tower is now a staple of downtown Fargo, where it resides.
Constructing this 2.5 MG water tower started with analyzing the City’s 12 water towers. Three towers, including one that was 90 years old, needed repairs and recoating. Apex and the City discovered that replacing the towers and combining their capacities into a single, larger water tower would reduce operating and maintenance costs. Construction on the tower was completed in the fall of 2024. The three other towers have since been removed as they were in operation during the construction.
Tnemec has run its Tank of the Year competition since 2006. There is a People’s Choice Award based on nominations from across the country. The company picks the top 10 and selects the overall Tank of the Year winner. The water tower finalists and others nominated are then showcased in a yearly calendar. Tnemec creates coating products formulated to protect and prolong the paint life of water tanks.
Congrats to the City of Fargo for earning Tank of the Year 2025. Thank you to Tnemec for hosting a contest that really holds water!
