Overview

Apex Engineering Group provided Preliminary Engineering/PCR and Final Design/Bid Documents to the NDDOT for this challenging stretch of 18.94 miles of ND Hwy 200 from Jct 1806 E to N Jct 83 including the segment across Garrison Dam.

Project Details

This project is really three segments with their own unique challenges, all wrapped up into one project.  The segment from the Junction of ND 1806 to the west end of Garrison Dam consisted of an HBP overlay, sliver grading, slope flattening in deep fill areas, ADA curb ramp retrofits and flashing beacon upgrades in Pick City, and construction of a radial-T intersection.

Across Garrison Dam through Riverdale, the project included reconstruction of seven horizontal curves to correct superelevation, replacement of all existing guardrail with new W-beam guardrail, and an HBP overlay.

From Riverdale to the end of the project at North Junction US 83, work elements included an HBP overlay, widening/riprap at a slough, and widening for a new left turn lane.

The project also required close coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for the highway work on the Garrison Dam section, including preparation of a new easement agreement.  A public information meeting was also conducted.

Construction was completed in 2013 at a cost of $12.4 million.
