Fire Alarm System Upgrades
Fire Alarm System Design/Code Review
The Great Plains Synfuels Plant, like most facilities of their
size, had multiple buildings with multiple fire alarm systems
installed. These disconnected systems led to complex maintenance
and very little redundancy in managing processes and protocol. And
with most of the systems obsolete, replacing these systems with a
single, integrated solution became a top priority.
Apex Engineering Group was called on to provide complete
electrical system design and final code review for an integrated
fire alarm system. Apex performed a thorough on-site audit of the
various systems in place and detailed the unique requirements of
the facility, such as: hazardous locations, control of deluge and
pre-action fire suppression systems, linear heat detection, system
variable monitoring and any unique installation requirements.
Apex partnered closely with the ownership group and fire alarm
system supplier to ensure all designs and implementations meet both
National Fire Protection Association and Factory Mutual (FM) Global
stringent requirements. Apex provided the knowledge needed to
ensure approval by FM. Apex also provided as-built record keeping
services to the owner, making future modifications easier and
shortening the time needed for design and implementation.
